Feliz Cumpleaños para la Maestra Consuelo Doris Díaz, quién ha sido colaboradora de Maestra Productions desde los inicios. Consuelo se hizo Maestra siendo muy joven y se ha dedicado a formar durante todos estos años, especialmente a grupos de la comunidad haitiana en Cuba y en Haití.
Tradujo al Creole nuestro Documental MAESTRA para amplificar su voz y con el propósito de llevar también esas lecciones a su gente.

En la actualidad Preside La Asociación Cubana de Descendientes de Haití que celebra hoy 28 de octubre, el dia Internacional del Creole.

#Huelga

Estimados amig@s, desde hace varios meses se viene realizando una huelga histórica en la ciudad de Los Ángeles y en todo Estados Unidos impulsada por una importante cantidad de actores y actrices agrupados en sindicatos, quienes reclaman los abusos laborales y contractuales a los grandes estudios, entre ellos están los términos de contrato obsoletos, junto con la evolución del negocio de los medios, así como el pago por regalías entre muchos otros puntos. Todo esto ha desatado una huelga que lleva varios meses.

En la jornada de hoy, nuestra compañera Catherine Murphy estuvo presente, junto con la amiga Lili Bernard y sus hijos -todos actores miembros del sindicato- para adherirse y apoyar a los compañer@s en huelga.

We recently knew about the unfortunate news of the

We recently knew about the unfortunate news of the passing of activist Hollis Watkins Muhammad, who dedicated much of his life to the cause of civil rights in the state of Mississippi during the 1960s.

He was also part of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) that began challenging segregation and racial oppression in his native Mississippi as a teenager and worked alongside civil rights icons such as Medgar Evers and Bob Moses.

At the age of 82, this good man who actively fought for the freedom and rights of his fellow Americans passed away. Peace to his soul.

Recientemente hemos conocido la lamentable noticia del fallecimiento del activista Hollis Watkins Muhammad, quien dedicó gran parte de su vida a la causa por los derechos civiles en el estado de Mississippi, durante la década de 1960.

Fue parte también del Comité Coordinador Estudiantil No Violento (SNCC) que empezó a desafiar la segregación y la opresión racial en su Mississippi natal cuando era adolescente y trabajó junto a iconos de los derechos civiles como Medgar Evers y Bob Moses,

A la edad de 82 años partió este buen hombre que luchó activamente por la libertad y los derechos de sus connacionales. Paz a su alma.

Maestras Voluntarias is the prequel to our earlier documentary @maestra_film , created during the Covid pandemic. Working with a Cuban crew on and off the island, we used footage from our own video archives, and newly digitized cinema treasures from the Noticiero Latinoamericano del ICAIC, stagoalvarez_oficina paying homage to the golden moment of Cuban cinema.

This year’s event includes presentations from Patricia Elam Walker, Jelani Cobb, Paula Giddings, Greg Carr, Michael Harriott, Ibram Kendi, Jacqueline Woodson, Young Guru, Steph Lova, Kamilah Forbes, Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, Mukoma wa Ngugi, Panashe Chigumadzi, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Nikole Hannah-Jones and Walter Mosley and more! About Kathryn Hall-Trujillo: For over forty years, as a public health administrator, community health educator and advocate in the public and private sectors, Ms. Hall-Trujillo has been addressing the racial and gender divide in women’s access to healthcare. She is an Independent Scholar of the Cuba Public Health System, serves on the Medical Advisory Board of IFCO (the administrator of the U.S./Cuba Medical School Scholarship Program), adjunct faculty for Charles Drew University of Medicine, and visiting professor for the Cuba National School of Public Health, where she facilitates courses for U.S. students and professionals. Her experience in understanding, translating and bridging policy, administration, services delivery, and client cultures has earned her national and international recognition, including presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Living Legacy Award and appointment as an official Ambassador by the Federation of International Gender and Human Rights (FIGHR), a United Nations affiliate. She has also received the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Public Health Lifetime Achievement Award and is an Ashoka Global Social Entrepreneur Fellow. Ms. Hall-Trujillo is a consultant and mentor to many community leaders, students, and young professionals, to whom she is affectionately known as Mama Katt. She is an active member of the U.S. Women and Cuba Collaboration which does on-going work to build feminist alliances between the US and Cuba.

Happy 84th Birthday to Claudette Colvin!

Colvin was 15 yrs old when she was arrested for resisting bus segregation in Montgomery, Alabama. Her case preceded Rosa Parks’ arrest by 9 months. She was one of 4 plaintiffs in Browder v. Gayle, the 1956 court case that ordered the desegregation of buses in Alabama.
