MAESTRA Events

This winter and spring two MAESTRA protagonists, Griselda Aguilera and Blanca Monett, have been touring the USA, screening MAESTRA and giving lectures on the Cuban Literacy Campaign.

GRISELDA AGUILERA,
the youngest Literacy Campaign volunteer, had a very successful visit to the USA from November 2016 to March 2017. She visited UCLA, SUNY Potsdam & Santa Fe, New Mexico screening Maestra and presenting on the campaign.


BLANCA MONETT
is currently on the West Coast. She has already spoken at Chabot College, San Francisco State University and Sonoma State University.

On May 11th she will be at the University of California at Davis.

CRUZADA: A New Literacy Project Film

We are excited announce that we’ve launched The Literacy Project’s next film, CRUZADA, about the Nicaraguan Literacy Campaign of 1980. In February, producers Shaya Christensen and Kathy Sevilla conducted the first research interviews in various regions of Nicaragua.
Over the next year, we will use this Facebook page to post updates about the production process. Give our page a “LIKE” and share with your friends!

Update on Norma Guillard

Please send your prayers and good thoughts to the brilliant and inspiring Norma Rita Guillard Limonta, a leading social psychologist in Cuba and one of the amazing women featured in MAESTRA. She has been facing serious health issues and is undergoing treatment in Havana. With some positive early results.
